Dear friends,

Unreal as it may seem, we are in fact headlong into the final full month of summer, with the always highly-anticipated fall book season just around the corner. With this in mind, I'd like to share with you a few late summer/early fall highlights from inSpirit. Enjoy!

Beacon Press has ignited their fall season early with Asian American Histories of the United States from author Catherine Ceniza Choy. This original, expansive volume -- due out August 2nd -- is a nearly 200-year history of Asian migration, labor, and community formation in the U.S. It is an inclusive, landmark work emphasizing how essential Asian American experiences are to any comprehensive understanding of United States history.

Incantations for Rest: Poems, Meditations, and Other Magic from poet-activist Atena Danner is the 2022 installment of our inSpirit Series. This stunning collection of poems, meditations, and magic is an invitation to slow down and explore every kind of rest, providing sacred space for those exhausted and overwhelmed by the demands of a racist, ableist society. Danner delivers an examination of spiritual spaces, a love letter to Black wellbeing, and medicine for all BIPOC people.

Choice Words: Writers on Abortion is a watershed literary anthology of poems, stories, and essays from essential voices that renew our courage in the struggle to defend reproductive rights. Contributors include Amy Tan, Audre Lourde, Langston Hughes, Margret Atwood, Gwendolyn Brooks, and Ursula Le Guin.

Stemming from the philosophies of radical self-love, emergent strategy, and pleasure activism, Journal of Radical Permission: A Daily Guide for Following Your Soul's Calling is an unforgettable and transformational experience of journaling your way to your most authentic self, from Sonya Renee Taylor and beloved teacher/activist adrienne maree brown. This structured journal based on Taylor and brown's twelve-week course, The Institute of Radical Permission, provides six key practices -- with prompts for each practice -- that center on curiosity, surrender, grace, and satisfaction.
